The Sunday/Monday games of the college football slate made what was a mundane football week into one with more pizzazz. Here are some more winners and losers of college football's "first" week.
Winners: Howard: The Bison pulled off the biggest upset in college football history-at least in the betting books-by beating UNLV, 43-40. Cam Newton's little brother, Caylin Newton, orchestrated the comeback as Howard pulled off one of the biggest point spread upsets to date. Winner: Josh Rosen: UCLA's starting quarterback conjured up an amazing comeback after the Bruins were down big against Texas A&M in the third quarter, 44-10. Part of the comeback was a fake spike that turned into a throw on a fade route with 48 seconds left, resulting in a critical touchdown. The Bruins would convert the go-ahead two-point conversion, with Rosen throwing for 491 yards in the game. As for the Texas A&M Aggies... Losers: Texas A&M: Congratulations, Atlanta Falcons fans. The public has forgotten about your Super Bowl 51 choke job as they now laugh at the expense of the Aggies. Losers: Florida State: Not only did the #3 Seminoles lose the game against #1 Alabama, 24-7, but they lost their quarterback, Deondre Francois, for the season with a patellar tendon injury in his left knee. Considering how stacked the ACC is as a conference, this injury doesn't bode well for Florida State's playoff chances.
