Doesn't it feel great? College football is officially in full swing, which means the push for the playoffs begins. Here's what won the week and what lost it.
Winners: Offense in the Show Me State: Missouri and Missouri State put on an offensive show, combining for 115 points, 1,307 total yards, and 56 first downs. Missouri came out the victor as quarterback Drew Lock threw for 521 yards and seven touchdown passes. His seven touchdown passes broke a school record. Missouri running back Damarea Crockett ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Winners: Clemson Tigers: The defending champions picked up where they left off, steamrolling Kent State by a score of 56-3. The Tigers ran for 353 yards as a team, scoring six rushing touchdowns in the game. They also had 312 receiving yards against Kent State, providing a balanced attack on offense that could prove to be lethal in their pursuit of back-to-back titles. Losers: Potential Upset Bids Against Top Ten Teams: Rutgers gave #8 Washington fits and outgained the Huskies in the first half before Washington eventually pulled away. #4 USC was tied with Western Michigan before pulling away in the 4th quarter. #2 Ohio State was down against Indiana at the half before turning on the jets. #9 Wisconsin struggled with Utah State early before turning that game into a blowout. It would've been an awesome start to the college football season if at least one of those upsets went through. Losers: Texas: It seems that Charlie Strong wasn't all to blame for the Longhorns' woes last season. #23 Texas had no answer for Maryland running back Ty Johnson, who ran all over the Longhorns for 132 yards on 12 carries. The Longhorns got upset by the Terrapins at home, 51-41, leaving questions about what needs to be fixed in Austin. Other Winners: Charlie Strong's South Florida squad, Georgia, Kansas possibly starting the season undefeated!! Other Losers: The MAC, Oregon State, competitiveness in the opening weekend, Wyoming's punter. Playoff Four (BAMA/FSU game in progress, among others):
