Why I'm Looking Forward To The 60-Game Season

Yes, this MLB season is far from perfect. No fans, not a full schedule, not seeing your favorite player (or even your favorite team) come to town, and the stresses of the upcoming CBA. It sucks, but what are you going to do when COVID-19 strikes? Get everyone sick and dead? I don't think so! Instead, let me tell you why I'm looking forward to having baseball back in a 60-game capacity.
  1. It's A Pennant Race Right Out The Shoot: This season will bring a whole new meaning to "every game counts". You have Opening Day, then it's a full-blown playoff chase. Baseball has always been about the race leading up to October baseball followed by October baseball itself. It would have been nice to have baseball back on the Fourth of July ('Merica). However, it's technically better to have the 60-game season in place if you think of the positive circumstances that come with it.
  2. Meaningful Match-Ups: The Los Angeles Dodgers will get a chance to plunk a few Astros this season (and the next, too). The Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs will have their grudge match from the 2016 World Series happen. The Washington Nationals will upgrade from the New York Mets as their Opening Day opponent to the New York Yankees. These match-ups are what you should be looking forward to this season.
  3. Maybe Fans Will Be Let In? It seems like a long shot, but some owners are talking about letting fans experience a game or two this season. Astros owner Jim Crane and Red Sox owner John Henry have been open to the idea of having their ballparks open to fans at some point this season. Again, it's a long shot. But it's still a nice thought.
  4. I'm Happy For Baseball To Be Back: Even if it is shortened, baseball will always hold a place in my heart. Granted, the next couple years will be bumpy because of the CBA talks. But I'm glad that we have a season... for now.
