So I just did a Steam review on Streets of Rage 4 about a week ago and I felt I haven't covered enough of the game or why you should pick it up. Granted, there are the aforementioned frustrations from that blog post that are mentioned such as enemies being able to combo you. However, that should not deter you from buying this game. Let me go on a bit about why you should pick up Streets of Rage 4. First, the story line for this game is compelling. There are plenty of twists and turns within the story line, yet it still focuses on the one constant: Mr. and Ms. Y. You know these two are behind the troubles in Streets of Rage 4, yet the story has numerous layers. It compels you to dig deeper into the game with each passing level. That's not all, though. The game's soundtrack is awesome. With artists ranging from Yuzo Koshiro (who composed the original Streets of Rage games and others such as Kid Icarus: Uprising, Shenmue, and the ActRaiser series) to Olivier Deriviere (who has published his work for companies such as Ubisoft and Capcom) to Groundislava, the game's soundtrack is LOADED. Here are a few tracks from the game to show you what I mean. The biggest part of why I recommend Streets of Rage 4 is because it does a great job of calling back to its roots. Look at this pic below. That is Axel Stone, originally from the first Streets of Rage game. You can also unlock more throwback characters by accumulating points in your lifetime score and play the arcade, where you can play against former Streets of Rage bosses including Mr. X. himself. That alone gives you a reason to play Streets of Rage 4 continuously. Believe it or not, the retro characters feel better to play with than the main characters. However, they are more limited in their other attacks such as their energy attacks.
I cannot tell you how much fun Streets of Rage 4 is to play. Ironically, this is the first Streets of Rage game I've beaten, but that is a good thing. There is a great deal of content in Streets of Rage 4, a solid story, and plenty of solid soundtracks to go with Streets of Rage 4. If you want a fun beat-'em-up to try, give Streets of Rage 4 a shot.
