Who's the Favorite to Win the Stanley Cup Now?

It's hard to believe, but the Tampa Bay Lightning are on the ropes. After tying the '95-96 Detroit Red Wings for having the most wins in a season (62), the Lightning are now down 3-0 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Granted, the Red Wings lost to the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals that season. However, the Lightning seem to be suffering a more brutal fate. Unless the Lightning come back and win the series, who's the team that is the favorite to win the Stanley Cup?
  • Washington Capitals: The defending champions have an easier path carved out for them, not just because the Lightning are on life support. The Pittsburgh Penguins are down 3-0 against the Islanders, which makes Washington's life much easier considering that Washington's 2-9 in a playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Plus, you have Alex Ovechkin's exciting goals and his motley crew wreaking havoc again (how about Brooks Orpik?).
  • Columbus Blue Jackets: Why not the team that's taking Tampa Bay down right now? Does Columbus have a shot, especially with Sergei Bobrovsky's stellar play in net? John Tortorella has this team's collective head on a swivel, dominating the Lightning on the puck and controlling possession at will. The Blue Jackets also rolled into the playoffs pretty hot, so it makes sense that they're doing this right now.
  • Vegas Golden Knights: Like the Blue Jackets, all lines are presumably clicking for Vegas. The team also has unfinished business from last year and would like to hoist the Stanley Cup this summer. Calgary might be locked into a tight battle with Colorado, so this may play into Vegas's favor.
  • New York Islanders: As mentioned earlier, the Islanders have Pittsburgh on the ropes. Barry Trotz is picking up where he left off in last year's Stanley Cup run with Washington and it's showing with New York. If Jordan Eberle (three goals in the playoffs) continues to have a strong postseason, the Islanders may be back to hoisting the Stanley Cup.
  • Calgary Flames: The Flames have a diverse group of scorers and skaters that can put opposing teams on their heels. They'll have to take care of Colorado first. But it's not far-fetched to think that this team can do damage, especially if Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk have a solid postseason for Calgary.
  • Nashville Predators: If Nashville can overcome the gritty Dallas Stars, they could be on their way to hoisting the Stanley Cup. P.K. Subban and company want to bring the Cup to Nashville, but a lot will depend on if Pekka Rinne can be reliable behind the net.
  • Dallas Stars: As mentioned earlier, Dallas is gritty. But Dallas has plenty of guys who can score. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are important skaters for Dallas offensively. Ben Bishop (GAA in the postseason: 1.92, save percentage of .946 in the postseason) will also play an important role in the success of the Stars.
  • St. Louis Blues: The Blues have surprisingly never won a Stanley Cup. That could change this year if Oskar Sundqvist has a strong postseason like he has in the Winnipeg series. Vladimir Tarasenko is also an important player for this team, for he is the best skater the Blues have to offer. He cannot disappear in the postseason if St. Louis is to hoist the Stanley Cup this season.
