It happens every four years, yet it remains a spectacle. The World Cup brings the gift of international football to global viewers in hopes of their country winning the tournament. You know who Messi and Ronaldo are. But do you know who these players are?
  • Mohamed Salah, Egypt: The man dubbed "Egyptian Messi" has had a breakout season for Liverpool. Salah tallied 32 goals in 36 appearances this season in the Premier League, breaking the league record for most goals in a season. The Golden Boot winner also had ten assists on the season.
  • Manuel Neuer, Germany: There isn't a defining star on the German squad, but there is one player that makes a huge impact for the Germans. Neuer's announcement that he would return after being months out helps the German squad immensely. The goalkeeper for Bayern Munich won the Golden Glove in the 2014 World Cup as the most outstanding goalie for the Germans, who became the champions that year.
  • Luka Modric, Croatia: The Vatreni has one of the best squads in its World Cup history and it's thanks to players like Real Madrid player Luka Modric. The captain could be playing in his last World Cup, for he is 32 years old.
  • Sadio Mane, Senegal: Mane may lead an unknown Senegal squad to the round of 16. He has 19 goals and nine assists in international competition this year. On the national team (Senegal), the Liverpool star has 13 goals in 46 matches.
  • Harry Kane, England: From Sadio Mane to Harry Kane, the Tottenham Hotspur striker has set the competition on fire. He has 30 goals in Premier League competition this season and has scored 84 goals over the past three seasons in the Premier League.
  • Son Heung-Min, South Korea: In ten substitute appearances and 37 matches in Premier League competition, Heung-Min has 12 goals. If South Korea is to stand a chance, they'll need the Tottenham Hotspur star to come up big for them.
