What To Expect From The 60-Game Season

It's summer camp time for baseball! We almost didn't have a season to begin with (we're still on the fence with the current COVID-19 situation not going away any time soon), so let's be thankful that it's back... for now. Here are a few things to expect for the upcoming baseball season.

• It's Anyone's Game. Seriously: At the 60-game mark of last season, the 2019 World Series champions, the Washington Nationals, were 27-33. What's more, the NL Central champion, the St. Louis Cardinals, were 31-29, while the Oakland Athletics were at the .500 mark. This season, nearly every team will have a shot at October baseball. Basically, this is a pennant race right out of the shoot.
  
• Certain Records Will Be Within Reach: It's impossible to hit .400 in a single season (the last player to pull this off was Ted Williams in 1941). It's also impossible for a starting pitcher to have an ERA below 1.00. With the right run and circumstances, both will be in play in this shortened season. Will these records be legit? That will be the bigger question among the fans.
  
• Some Players Won't Be Participating: Due to the magnitude of the coronavirus, there are some players that are opting out of the 2020 season. Ian Desmond is one of those players and he's gotten support from the front office of the Colorado Rockies. Expect more players to opt out due to the health concerns.
