With the coronavirus still going on (it's still a big deal), the NHL is looking to scramble the divisions for next season. Yes, the proposed Canadian division will span all four time zones. However, that is because of restrictive policies in place that limit the amount of travel between the United States and Canada. Here is what I like about the proposed divisions for next season.
The biggest thing for me is the reunion of the Blackhawks-Red Wings rivalry. These two teams have hated each other since 1926 and got separated when the divisions re-aligned. I can't wait to see Blackhawk and Red Wing fans talking smack towards one another, even if there are no fans for a good portion of the season (if any at all). In fact, I'm stoked to see the old Central division reunited again if it does happen. Watching the Red Wings play against the Blues, Blue Jackets, and Predators was a big part of my Red Wing fandom growing up and it will bring back some nostalgia, only with Yzerman in a suite.
Granted, the divisions will separate teams such as the Bruins and Canadiens (who actually have a longer history than the Red Wings and Blackhawks do). But for a hockey fan from metro Detroit, I can't wait to see Chicago and Detroit go at it once more if the divisions go through.
My life! Food, sports, school. It's what it is!
