Did you read the headline? I know it sounds crazy considering that Washington State hasn't beaten anyone of significance this season with their schedule being weak, but there is still a possibility that Washington State can get in.
Consider this: If Notre Dame somehow manages to trip up even once in their last three games (especially against USC), they won't be undefeated going into the final rankings. They NEED to be undefeated considering that:
Michigan still has that Big Game against Ohio State, which is always going to be a challenge, regardless of how passive Urban Meyer's defense looks this season. By the way, Jim Harbaugh has never beaten Urban Meyer. Georgia has locked up the SEC East, but still has to take on FREAKIN' ALABAMA in the SEC Championship. If you have seen Alabama football this year, you have seen the Tide destroy opponents left and right. Therefore, Georgia can't afford to slip up. Oklahoma has a tame schedule heading up to a tough date after Thanksgiving in Morgantown. They might get in still, but don't sleep on Will Grier's ability to take over a game. LSU only has a date against Texas A&M at the end to worry about, so their schedule is actually easy to win out the rest of the way. The only problem is that LSU won't be participating in the SEC Championship.
Now what about the other teams behind Washington State? West Virginia has to worry about that Oklahoma game and have the bad loss to Iowa State looming over them. Ohio State may not make it to the Big Ten Championship with dates against the two Michigan-based schools. UCF, well, there's such a thing as wishful thinking, right?
As for the Cougars, if Utah, Oregon, and Stanford rebound and Washington stays ranked heading into the Apple Cup, the Cougars may build up their resume enough to get in. That is, if all the aforementioned chaos happens. This is all contingent on if Washington State runs the table and does not trip up. The committee has said that they were impressed with Washington State's wins over Oregon and Utah. Don't forget, there is a possibility that we could see chaos in the last few weeks.
