The Tecmo Super Bowl Prediction

9/24/2019

So I decided to simulate the entire 2019 NFL season a couple weeks ago. There were surprises galore in the simulation and I mean SURPRISES. For example, the New York Giants go 8-1 in the first half of the season. WHAT?! Apparently, Saquon Barkley is having an MVP season in Tecmo Super Bowl and Eli Manning is passable. Also, the Jets, Cardinals and Broncos are in the running for a playoff spot, which is surprising if you consider that all three teams are currently winless. Also, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, and even Tom Brady suffer injuries (albeit for a short time) in the season. Here's how the first half of the simulated season panned out.
Now we go back to the end of the regular season and the Eagles get the best record in the NFL thanks to their 9-0 start. Somehow, Jacksonville surges to a playoff spot, going 5-2 in their final seven games to win the AFC South. Denver, the New York Giants, and the New York Jets hold serve to obtain surprising playoff spots while the Cardinals fall out. Yes, Cleveland lived up to expectations this season and made the playoffs, bumping Pittsburgh out on the last week. Here's how the regular season shook out.
Here are the leaders for this Tecmo Super Bowl season. Boy, does this game emphasize rushing A LOT. The sheer fact that there are two running backs with over 2,000 rushing yards says a lot about the game. There also a lot of sacks, as seen by Aaron Donald's 36 sacks this season.
So now the playoffs are set. The New England Patriots do Patriot stuff en route to another Super Bowl appearance. They will taking to a rematch from a couple years ago against the Philadelphia Eagles. Believe it or not, the Eagles have to rely on the magic of Josh McCown after Carson Wentz gets injured (I'm so shocked) to get there. So who wins the rematch between the two teams?

The Patriots win number seven, beating the Eagles, 35-28. McCown's magic wasn't enough to lift America up as Tom Brady just threw it to Julian Edelman all game en route to his seventh ring.

The season had some surprises (hello, New York teams), but it ultimately led to New England hoisting the Lombardi trophy. Also, I need to do these simulations more often. I love the surprises that come with them. Also, the halftime show for the Super Bowl was the Mighty Bomb Jack Show, a character from another Tecmo game, Mighty Bomb Jack for the NES. I bet Roger Goodell would be entertained by this halftime show.
