With the coronavirus pandemic taking its toll on the sports world, it was only a matter of time before conferences such as the Mid American Conference and the Mountain West Conference postponed fall sports. Should the NCAA follow suit and postpone all fall sports altogether?
Personally, I'd be fine with it. The main focus of fall sports is football, which is the NCAA's cash cow. Cancelling it altogether would drastically hurt its revenue, so why not postpone fall sports until the spring? The spring sports schedule may look a bit chaotic, but the NCAA is all about money. Therefore, it would make the most sense for them to do this until the pandemic is over.
Another benefit for postponing fall sports, namely football, is that some colleges share stadiums with NFL teams. Some schools that come to mind include the Pittsburgh Panthers (Heinz Field), Temple Owls (Lincoln Financial Field), and UNLV (Allegiant Stadium). These schools would get the stadiums all to themselves when springtime rolls around. Granted, you still have concerts and the like to worry about. However, concerts and other events will probably still be on hold until a later time.
I wouldn't mind seeing fall sports on the collegiate level being delayed until the spring. Personally, I think it'd be a unique experience to see.
My life! Food, sports, school. It's what it is!
