Star quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a sickening ankle injury in Dallas's 37-34 win over the New York Giants yesterday. Trying to stiff arm Giants cornerback Logan Ryan, Prescott's ankle went underneath Ryan and went the other direction. It's likely that Prescott's season is over, which will add to the agony of the Cowboys' frustrating season. Should Cowboy fans be concerned?
Absolutely. First, Andy Dalton is a good veteran presence for the Cowboys, even going 9-for-11 for 111 yards. However, Dalton hasn't had a completion percentage over 62% and has trown 37 interceptions in the past three seasons. He's also had one season with a rating over 100; that was in 2015, when he put up a case for MVP with a completion rate of 66.1%, 25 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. The one saving grace Cowboy fans have is that the NFC East is horrible. The Philadelphia Eagles are not going anywhere with Carson Wentz right now and the Giants and Washington are young teams that still need time to develop. Dalton could lead the surge to an NFC East title once Dallas gets healthy again. However, fans will have to hope for Super Bowl aspirations for next season.
