Setting "New Year's Resolutions"

It's an American tradition to set a "New Year's Resolution". It's a time of self-reflection on what we should do heading into the new year. Many common 'resolutions' include losing weight, eating better, and making nice with people that you've burned a bridge with. But have you thought about making a list about what your weaknesses are?

It's hard for us to admit that we have any problems in our lives. Or at least, it's hard for us to acknowledge them. We know which problems exist, but do we do anything about these problems?

Try writing down four weaknesses or areas in need of improvement that you have as a person. I have four that I've pinpointed to work on in the upcoming year as an example:
  1. I have a bit of a temper. If I get angered, I should take a step back away from the situation and take a deep breath.
  2. I have a hard time listening. Sometimes, it's best to wait for your turn to speak. Sometimes, it's even better to not say anything  if you don't know what the people are talking about.
  3. I assume too much. I have a tendency of making assumptions about people or things I have no knowledge about. I need to step back and review the facts before coming to a conclusion.
  4. I get easily annoyed by dumb things or actions. It's easy to get caught up in someone's false assumptions about your life or their bad tendencies. Just focus on the long term.
Give it a shot!
