It’s self-explanatory. Still, the average basketball fan, save the average Lakers fan, would want Kawhi to stay in a Toronto Raptors uniform or go to Hollywood... to play for the Clippers.
Obviously, only Laker fans love their franchise. They’re the New York Yankees of the NBA (I’d say the Celtics are the St. Louis Cardinals of the NBA, just to throw it out there). The glitziest franchise in basketball existence, the aura of champions surrounds the Lakers. The more successful and glamorous you are, the more hated you become.
Root for Kawhi to stay in the North because they’re the best shot to stop the Lakers from getting him. They’re the NBA champions and keeping him makes them a threat next season. The NBA needs parity right now, especially with the Heat and Warriors ruling the roost for most of this decade. Having Kawhi in Toronto makes the league unpredictable regarding who’s the favorite to win the NBA title.
As for the Clippers, the Clippers have never won the title. Backed by an eccentric, strapped owner in Steve Ballmer, the Clippers have a scrappy squad akin to the Raptors: scorers off the bench, good outside shooting, and gritty to the core. Imagine the other Los Angeles team getting to hoist the Larry O’ Brien trophy.
In any case, no one wants the Lakers to get Kawhi, save Lakers fans. The two best options for fans are the underdogs that everyone can root for. If the Lakers get Kawhi and a few veteran shooters on the cheap, it’s over... at least on paper.
