Rebuilding the San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants had a solid run this decade. Three World Series titles in five seasons makes for a remarkable dynasty, especially in the modern sports world. However, an aging core has this team on its last legs. Here are some moves the Giants can make to reload for the future.
  • Brewers Acquire Madison Bumgarner For Pitcher Corbin Burnes, Minor League Shortstop Brice Turang OR Minor League Outfielder Corey Ray, and Minor League Pitcher Zack Brown: The Brewers will only have Bumgarner for one season, but are hoping to take that next step to the World Series with Bumgarner in tow. The Brewers will only pay $12 million max if they get Bumgarner this season. The Giants ace has a postseason pedigree and can even hit homers if needed. As for the Milwaukee side, Burnes is one of three young pitchers demanded by San Francisco (Freddy Peralta and Brandon Woodruff being the other two). Burnes is only a year older than Peralta and two years younger than Woodruff. Burnes also had an ERA of 2.61to go with a SO/W ratio of 3.18, a WHIP of 1, and an ERA+ of 158 in 30 games last season. Turang and Ray are two speedy players that can lead off for the Giants and Brown has a great curveball/fastball combo and deceptive delivery that can help the Giants. If the Brewers hadn't signed Jed Lowrie, the Giants could have added Joe Panik to the package and make this a bigger blockbuster.
  • Athletics Acquire Johnny Cueto and Tony Watson for Minor League Outfielders Lazaro Armenteros and Jameson Hannah and MLB Outfielder Mark Canha (the Giants Can Pay a Portion of Cueto's Salary if Needed): The A's need pitching badly and Cueto can be slotted into the rotation in an AL West division that is suddenly weakened. Watson can provide the A's with some late relief, making a Watson/Treinen relief combo pretty badass. Armenteros and Hannah are two speedy outfielders that can be good leadoff options, similar to what was offered in the Milwaukee package. As for Canha, he's just there. He's there with the power in his bat.
  • Just Tank It: Honestly, the Giants should just go the route that the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros took and just tank it. As much as the Giants should acquire prospects, the problem is that many of their stars can't be moved. There are too many hefty contracts, the pre-arbitration players for San Francisco aren't enticing, and there isn't much of a market for second basemen like Joe Panik. Many of the players also have no-trade clauses, making this endeavor even harder. The Giants should just trade Bumgarner and see what they can get for any players that can be shipped.
