The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had perhaps one of the splashiest off-seasons this year in the NFL. Signing Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski was enough to make the airwaves of SportsCenter. So how does this rate in my eyes?
I'm giving the Bucs a 7.75 out of ten. Sure, Tom Brady is an upgrade over Jameis Winston, even past his 40's. Brady will also love having Bruce Arians as his coach, given Arians's affinity for diverse routes. Gronkowski is a big tight end that will give linebackers fits. Tampa Bay even got Tristan Wirfs in the draft to protect Brady. But there are so many indeterminate variables at play. One of them is Brady's aforementioned age, which will come into play no matter who's under center. Another is Gronkowski's long layoff from football? Will there be any rust in Gronkowski's game? How bad will Gronk's football rust be if so? While Tampa Bay won the off-season on paper, there are many questions to be answered heading into the season.
