Panthers' Off-Season Checklist

4/3/2018

The Carolina Panthers made their return to the playoffs last year, only to be beaten by New Orleans in the Wild Card round. What can the Panthers do to take the next step?
  • Build the Offensive Line (not done) : Cam Newton had another down year last season, completing 59.1% of his passes and throwing 16 picks. However, Newton isn't entirely to blame. He was sacked 35 times and lost 242 yards. If Carolina is to see a better Cam Newton, they must build up the offensive line.
  • Strengthen the Defensive Line (done): Signing Dontari Poe (39 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks) to bolster the nose tackle/defensive tackle position will pay dividends for Carolina, as it will add depth along with size and make Carolina's front seven more experienced.
  • Find an Quality Player at the Safety Position (not done): Aside from Mike Adams (69 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, two interceptions), who's 37 years old, the Panthers are either young or inexperienced at the safety position. They can draft a player or go after an experienced veteran to lend leadership to the safety position.
