I know I just did a Nostalgia Game Review a while ago. However, I've decided to delve into a beat-'em-up that I couldn't pass up. Normally, I just do SNES and Game Boy reviews on here. However, I decided to change things up a bit and do a game for the Sega Genesis. It's not the blue hedgehog that I will be reviewing, however. Instead, I will be doing a review on Streets Of Rage. The game was released in 1991 and was a beat-em-up arcade-style game where you roamed the streets taking on bad guys. You have three different characters to choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You also get a special attack where you deploy a police trooper out to level the playing field via a rocket launcher. You go through each stage fighting underlings until you come across the big boss, who has his/her own unique mechanics.
This game is an easy game to pick up and play. The controls feel perfectly fine and the game's difficulty flows with the game. It feels like a natural progression as you get deeper into the game. The weapon choices are sizable and can make your life easier in case of emergency. The variety and the different fighting styles each character brings to the table is also an added bonus. The cherry on top for this game is that there's a boss that resembles the Ultimate Warrior. Hell yeah! If you like beat-em-ups and you want something to try out, give Streets Of Rage a try. The mechanics of the game and the action will be enough to strike your fancy!
