NFC North Preview 2019

Now we take a look at what could be one of the toughest divisions in the NFL: the NFC North. How will the division shake out this season?

• Top Dog(s): Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers: DAAA Bears boasted the third-best defense in the NFL (299.7 YPG allowed). Led by Khalil Mack and Kyle Fuller, the Bears expect to take that next step forward. If Mitch Trubisky can elevate his game, the Bears can become Super Bowl threats. As for the Packers, they have that Aaron Rodgers dude. I hear he’s really good or something. But how will he function under Matt LaFleur? Was Mike McCarthy a hindrance after all? How will the new-look defense, with linebacker Rashan Gary and safety Darnell Savage in tow, fare? These questions will be answered as Green Bay looks to make a return to the playoffs.
• Middle of the Pack: Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings have a stellar secondary once again, with the third-lowest YPG allowed through the air (196.2). Minnesota looks to stymie opponents defensively. The Vikings also have offensive weapons, namely Stefan Diggs and Adam Thielen. But it is a matter of Kirk Cousins elevating his game when it counts. If Cousins doesn’t do this, the Vikings will miss the playoffs again.
• Cellar Dweller: Detroit Lions: The Lions have staffed up their team with ex-Patriots such as Danny Amendola and Trey Flowers. The Lions also seem to have a running game for once in Kerryon Johnson. However, this is make or break for Matt Patricia and company. Considering that this division has gotten tougher, the Lions may have to make a tough decision regarding Patricia and company.
