Who are the top teams through the second half of May? Which teams are moving up and which teams are sliding? This list isn't based on who the sexy big-market teams are, just who's good and who's really good.
  1. New York Yankees: The Yankees--and Giancarlo Stanton--seemed to have found their stride. Stanton is hitting .350 with a home run in the past seven days and is hitting .323 with six homers, 13 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.088 for the month of May.
  2. Boston Red Sox: Mookie Betts is on pace for 54 home runs and 64 doubles. He's been a big reason for why Boston's lineup has some pop along with J.D. Martinez (15 homers, 41 RBIs, .343 BA, 1.077 OPS).
  3. Houston Astros: The best team ERA in baseball belongs to Houston, who tops the league with an ERA of 2.43. Astros pitchers are also holding opponents to a .195 batting average and have a team WHIP of 0.95.
  4. Milwaukee Brewers: Is there a better bullpen arm right now than Josh Hader (0.51 WHIP, 1.32 ERA, 18.44 K/9)? The lefty's fastball and slider have been hard to hit. In fact, he already has 56 strikeouts on the season.
  5. Atlanta Braves: The three-headed monster of Nick Markakis (.922 OPS, 32 RBIs), Freddie Freeman (nine homers, 35 RBIs, .989 OPS, .561 SLG), and Ozzie Albies (13 homers, 33 RBIs, .895 OPS) has propelled the surprising Braves into first place in the NL East. With the most runs scored in the NL, they're just getting started.
  6. Philadelphia Phillies: Aaron Nola (2.37 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) and Nick Pivetta (3.23 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 10.19 K/9) are proving to be one of the best one-two pitching combos the Phillies have ever had. Not since the days of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Roy Oswalt has Philadelphia had a rotation this good.
  7. St. Louis Cardinals: Jordan Hicks hasn't been the only player to make an immediate impact for St. Louis. Tyler O' Neill (.368 BA, 1.304 OPS, three homers in 19 AB) has given the Cardinals a sudden surge of power in the lineup.
  8. Chicago Cubs: The Cubs' bullpen has been a bright spot in a bumpy start to the season and it seems their lineup is turning around. However, can the Cubs come out on top in a stacked NL Central?
  9. Seattle Mariners: Can the Mariners keep this up without Robinson Cano and clinch their first playoff berth since 2001? If Mitch Haniger (11 homers, 36 RBIs, .951 OPS) keeps playing like an MVP, they might just make it there.
  10. Los Angeles Angels: The Angels have been sliding as of late. However, they are going on the road for a ten game road trip, where they are 14-4 for the season.
In The Hunt: Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, Oakland A's, Washington Nationals
