WWE is in turmoil right now. From locker room morale being at an all-time low to its sagging ratings, things are not looking good for the premier wrestling promotion right now. Vince McMahon is trying to remedy the situation by... initiating the 'wild card' rule. Here, three to four stars from the opposite brand show up on a show and even wrestle in a match. The 'wild card' rule doesn't do much to address the issue of low ratings.
FOX has expressed concern to WWE over the sagging ratings, mounting pressure on the company to fix the issue. Many are saying that the lack of creativity from WWE's creative writers are hampering the content, with many citing the "Teddy Long Special" as a prime example. One wrestler comes out and cuts a promo. Another will enter and cut a promo of their own. Another comes out and cut their promo and another may come out and do the same thing. Eventually, the general manager or owner will come out and schedule a tag team match among the four wrestlers, prompting a pop from the crowd.
The lack of creativity, paired with Vince's ego (see The Revival's situation), is hurting the promotion more than ever. Talent like Sasha Banks aren't being utilized well enough. Certain wrestlers need a heel/face turn and aren't getting it. In any case, if WWE doesn't remedy these situations, they could lose fans such as myself. Even worse, the WWE's deal with FOX will turn into one of the biggest duds in television history.
