This week in college football saw a major conference's playoff chances take a major hit and a shoot-out in Bedlam happen. Who won the week and who lost it?
Winner: Baker Mayfield: The Oklahoma quarterback had a monster day, throwing for 598 yards and five touchdowns. He led the #5 Sooners to a 62-52 shoot-out win over the #11 Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Winner: Miami Hurricanes: A #10 Hurricanes team that recovered two fumbles (One by R.J. McIntosh, one by Jonathan Garvin) and had eight total sacks against #13 Virginia Tech had a good night. Miami dominated the Hokies, 28-10. Next stop, a home date against #3 Notre Dame.
Winner: One-Loss Teams: Teams looking to get back into the thick of the playoff race got a huge boost with #6 Ohio State and #7 Penn State losing. Teams like Washington, Oklahoma, and TCU saw their playoff hopes gain a spark. Speaking of the Big Ten East...
Loser: Big Ten: With Penn State suffering a last-second upset against #24 Michigan State and Ohio State getting socked, 55-24, against Iowa, the Big Ten's best hope for a playoff berth is #9 Wisconsin. The Badgers may be undefeated, but Playoff Committee member Kirby Hocutt has admitted that Wisconsin's schedule looks "less than desirable." Wisconsin needed a massive fourth-quarter breakthrough to beat Indiana.
Loser: Florida: Even after firing head coach Jim McElwain, the Gators still seem to be lost. They got throttled by a surging Missouri team, 45-16. The Gators were outscored in the first half, 28-6.
Other Winners: Dante Pettis, Iowa, Memphis
Other Losers: North Carolina State between the first and fourth quarters, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State
