Once again, it was a week filled with upsets and seasons ruined. In fact, we've had a top contender fall from their perch! Who stole the week and who botched it?
Winner: Michigan: Jim Harbaugh coached an impeccable game as #12 Michigan demolished #15 Wisconsin, 38-13. The Wolverines accumulated 444 total yards of offense while Karan Higdon ran the ball for 105 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. The win coupled with the Penn State loss puts Michigan in a solid position in the Big Ten East for now, with a rivalry game against the Michigan State Spartans next week.
Winner: LSU: Another team with a statement win this week was LSU. The Tigers forced four turnovers and only had two penalties the entire game as #13 LSU stomped on #2 Georgia, 36-16. Expect a big jump in the rankings for both Michigan and LSU.
Winner: Oregon: The Ducks nearly suffered another late-game collapse against #7 Washington, but were bailed out by a missed 37-yard field goal by Peyton Henry. Still, C.J. Verdell had a big game, running the ball 29 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns as #17 Oregon edged the Huskies, 30-27, in overtime. Don't sleep on the Ducks in the race for a college football playoff spot, especially with Georgia falling and Justin Herbert as their quarterback: there are only two teams currently above .500 that the Ducks have to face (Washington State and Utah) before the possible Pac-12 Championship.
Loser: Top Ten Teams: For a second straight week, a slew of teams in the Top Ten fell. #2 Georgia and #6 West Virginia got demolished while #7 Washington and #8 Penn State had their playoff hopes dashed by late-game misfortunes. In fact, there were plenty of Top Ten teams that survived scares: #5 Notre Dame, #9 Texas, and #10 UCF barely made it out alive while it took #3 Ohio State until the fourth quarter to pull away.
Loser: Ranked Teams: In fact, this week hasn't been too kind to other ranked teams. #21 Auburn continues their downward spiral while #16 Miami got upset and #19 Colorado fell from the unbeaten ranks. #23 South Florida and #22 Texas A&M both survived scares as well.
Loser: Raekwon Davis: The Alabama defensive lineman threw punches at Kevin Pendleton in Alabama's 39-10 win over Missouri. Davis also kneed the Missouri offensive lineman while Pendleton was down. Davis was flagged for the play, but was not ejected for the matter.
Other Winners: Dwayne Haskins, Travis Levy, Buffalo
Other Losers: California, Rutgers, Jake Fromm
