In my opinion, the only three good things about fall are football, basketball, and hockey returning. With these three sports in session, they help to cope with the seasons turning into a cold, unforgiving beast. Anyways, college football's back and we've already got action. Here's who won the week and who lost it.
Winner: Appalachian State: 11 years after the Mountaineers pulled off a monumental upset at Michigan, they nearly did the same thing against #10 Penn State. They might've lost in overtime, 45-38. However, the game was a testament to how tough the Mountaineers can be as an opponent with a callback to the team that upset the Wolverines.
Winner: Ohio State: No Urban, no problem. The Buckeyes throttled the Oregon State Beavers, 77-31, in the first of three games without their head coach. Mike Weber had 20 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns while Nick Bosa recovered two fumbles for the Buckeyes.
Winner: LSU: The Tigers look incrediby strong against #8 Miami, running out to a 24-point lead before the first half. With a pair of Nick Brossette touchdown runs and an interception return for a touchdown by Jacob Phillips, #25 LSU looks to be a sleeper in the deep division known as the SEC West.
Loser: Jim Harbaugh: His team looked completely unorganized in #14 Michigan's 24-17 loss to #12 Notre Dame. From Shea Patterson's underwhelming performance to numerous gaffes including not having 11 players on the field numerous times, Harbaugh continued to show his inability to beat Michigan's closest rivals.
Loser: Texas: Another year, another letdown for the #23 Longhorns. Losing to Maryland (who has their own problems with the D.J. Durkin controversy) proved that Texas can pull a decent recruiting class, but can't put it all together. Ever since Mack Brown left Texas, this has been the case.
Loser: Mother Nature: Nebraska-Akron was postponed due to thunderstorm and West Virginia and Tennessee got delayed. There were some great football games this weekend, but some folks didn't get to see it.
Other Winners: UC Davis, Villanova, Auburn
Other Losers: Washington in the last five minutes of the game, Miami, East Carolina
College Playoff Four:
My life! Food, sports, school. It's what it is!
