College Football Winners and Losers, Week Nine

10/31/2020

A big showdown in the Valley and a brotherly rivalry ensued in this week's rendition of spooky college football. Who made it through unscathed and who got scared out of their socks?
  • Winner: Elijah Moore: The Ole Miss receiver amassed 238 receiving yards on 14 carries along with three touchdowns in the Rebels' resounding 54-21 win over Vanderbilt. The junior rebounded from a dismal showing last week against Auburn, where he had five catches for only 16 yards and a touchdown. This game isn't the first 200+ yard game for Moore, either: Moore had 10 catches for 227 yards in a 51-35 loss to Florida in Week One.
  • Winner: Coastal Carolina: The Chanticleers put up 51 points on Georgia State and shut them out in the process. This included 27 points in the second quarter alone for Coastal Carolina. Grayson McCall had four touchdown passes for the Chanticleers in their debut game as a member of the Top 25. Talk about making an impression.
  • Loser: Brock Walker: Maryland scored a big upset over Minnesota when Walker missed a PAT that would've sent the game into double overtime. Talk about haunting you forever.
  • Loser: Jim Harbaugh: Why is it that Harbaugh always has trouble with Michigan State. He hasn't beaten Ohio State, which is understandable given Ohio State's talent. Yet, he still struggles with Michigan State, even with Mark Dantonio gone. Harbaugh is 1-6 vs. Michigan State and Ohio State at home as well. Ouch.
  • Loser: Big 12: Texas pulled a big upset over Oklahoma State in overtime, 41-34, leaving the Big 12 without any undefeated teams left. The Cowboys still have a path to the playoff, but it will be much more complicated, especially with a match-up looming against the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma State's loss opens the door for the Pac-12 or Cincinnati to get into the playoff or for the SEC to get another team in (Hello, Georgia).
Other Winners: Oklahoma, Rocky Lombardi, Sam Howell-to-Dyami Brown
Other Losers: Nebraska, the rest of the North Carolina Tar Heels, Kansas State

Playoff Four:
  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Ohio State
  4. Notre Dame

I think that there are lots of schools who managed to improve this week. If I have to give some opinion, then I would say that this is good for the entirety of the league. If we can further develop competition, then this will make the league a lot more interesting for everyone involved. I am saying this both as a fan and as a member of the collegiate system. I hope that we can continue this trend, my man.
