College Football Winners And Losers, Week Eleven

11/9/2019

Two massive match-ups went down in the college football world and both have massive playoff implications. Who wasn't shaken nor stirred and who got their socks rocked off?
  • Winner: Minnesota: P.J. Fleck's crew rowed the boat past #4 Penn State, 31-26. The defense forced Sean Clifford to throw three interceptions (two coming from Antoine Winfield, Jr.) and Rashod Bateman had seven catches for 203 yards and a touchdown. The win cements the Golden Gophers' status as a dark horse playoff candidate, with games against Iowa and Wisconsin coming up.
  • Winner: Ed Orgeron: The LSU coach got his big win over Nick Saban and #3 Alabama. While Alabama did storm back, the #2 Tigers held on to win in Tuscaloosa, 46-41. Orgeron unleashed Joe Burrow for a 31-for-39 day, throwing for 393 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, LSU has the fast track to the SEC West and potentially a playoff spot.
  • Winner: Clemson: A 55-10 blowout of North Carolina State after getting left out of the initial rankings? Now that's making a statement.
  • Loser: Alabama: It's not normal to see Alabama in the losers section, but they did play some sloppy football. This is especially true in the first half, when LSU was stomping all over the Tide, 33-13. Tua Tagovailoa barely completed half of his passes and the defense looked smothered out on the field. Now it remains to be seen whether Alabama can make the playoff.
  • Loser: Wake Forest: The #19 Demon Deacons didn't do the weak ACC any justice as they got embarrassed by Virginia Tech, 36-17. Wake Forest was outscored in the second half, 30-7, and saw Jamie Newman go 16-for-35 with two interceptions. Now the ACC will have to heavily rely on Clemson to run the table in order to have a shot at the playoff.
Other Winners: Texas, Offense in East Carolina-SMU, Illinois in the fourth quarter
Other Losers: UCF, Arkansas, NC State
