College football winners and losers, championship edition

Championship week is here! This is the last showcase before the committee decides who's in and out of the playoff picture. Who nailed their performance and who fell flat on their face?

• Winner: Trey Sermon: So your star quarterback has an off game in the Big Ten championship. Who do you call to step up to the plate? Oklahoma transfer Trey Sermon. The senior running back for the Buckeyes had 29 carries for 331 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His stellar performance helped the Buckeyes beat the Northwestern Wildcats, 22-10. Sermon's big performance proves Ohio State has a great deal of depth on their team. If Sermon has a stellar performance against Clemson, watch out!
  
• Winner: ACC: No matter how bad the Clemson Tigers beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, both teams got in. Alabama will face Notre Dame in a rematch from the championship in 2012, while Ohio State will get another crack at Clemson for last season. For a conference deemed too weak by pundits, the ACC has done something not even the SEC could do.
  
• Loser: Larry Scott: The Washington Huskies had an unexpected COVID case, rendering them incapable of competing for the Pac-12 Championship. So what does Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott do? Instead of pushing the date back a day or two, he has Oregon replace the Huskies. As a result, the Ducks upset the #13 USC Trojans, 31-24, ending their playoff hopes. Granted, they were small. But Scott's bad decision is just a part of his ineffective reign as commissioner. Thus, the Pac-12 continues its descent towards irrelevance.
  
• Loser: Teams on the Outside Looking In: Texas A&M had a solid performance against Tennessee, but didn't make the SEC Championship. Cincinnati won their conference championship, but are a Group of Five team. Maybe it's time to expand the playoff?
