College football winners and losers, 2020-2021

Another season is in the books, with a juggernaut rising to the top of the mountain again. With Alabama's resounding 52-24 win over Ohio State, the Crimson Tide won their 18th National Championship. With another season gone, here's who won the year and who lost it.
  • Winner: Alabama: After last season's disappointment, the Crimson Tide bounced back in a big way. First, the Tide won the SEC. Then, Devonta Smith won the Heisman trophy. After that, Alabama won the National Championship. All this talk about an Alabama demise seems to be greatly exaggerated, especially with the recent recruiting classes they're pulling in. Never count Nick Saban's crew out.
  • Winner: Group of Five Schools: The playoff still needs to be reworked since it's still an exclusive club for SEC and ACC schools. However, the Group of Five had an impressive showing this season. With schools like Coastal Carolina and Cincinnati cracking the top ten at one point, it's safe to say the smaller schools are getting a crack at the top. Even schools like Louisiana-Lafayette, BYU, Marshall, and Tulsa got in on the fun.
  • Loser: Pac-12 and Big 12: You know about the Pac-12's recurring problems under the Larry Scott regime. This is especially true since Oregon, its top school, continues to underachieve. However, the Big 12 stumbled out of the gate. There was still plenty of time in the regular season, yet the Big 12 was filled with two-loss teams. Even with Iowa State jumping into the top ten, they still fell short.
  • Loser: College Football Playoff: There are a couple reasons for this. One, the playoff selection committee still continues to favor Power Five conferences, shunning schools like Coastal Carolina and Cincinnati. It all goes back to one thing: money. Another issue is other Power Five conferences being left out. The Pac-12 and Big 12 deserve to have proper representation in the playoff, even at the behest of outside factors (i.e. a dumb commissioner or only one solid school). People want to see the USC's and the Oklahoma's compete, yet the committee remains steadfast on staying at four teams. Why not expand the playoff right now?
