An embarrassing 8-2 rout at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League has FC Barcelona fans worried. A team loaded at the forward position (especially with Lionel Messi), yet they get their asses handed to them by a Bundesliga team (granted, it's the best Bundesliga team) AND they lost to Osasuna, 2-1, in mid-July. Things are not looking good in Barcelona. As a result, the club has axed head coach Quique Setien for his club's underwhelming performance. Finishing 2nd behind rival Real Madrid in La Liga doesn't make matters better for Barca. Yes, they were back-to-back champions in La Liga not that long ago and won four straight Copa del Rey titles in recent memory. But the wheels appear to be falling off for Barca. The loss to Bayern Munich exposed a major flaw with Barcelona; the lack of defense in the middle of the field. This is especially true later in the match. In January, Barcelona lost to Atletico Madrid, 3-2, ending Barca's hopes at the Super Cup. In November 2019, Levante surprised Barcelona, beating them by a score of 3-1. What these three games show is that things can unravel quickly for Barcelona; only the Bayern Munich game had goals scored in the first half. So what should Barcelona do? There are rumors that Barcelona is looking to unload any contract, especially if a player is severely underperforming. There are rumors that Lionel Messi may leave town, possibly for Manchester City. Ousmane Demubele may also be on the move. In any case, something has to change for FC Barcelona. Otherwise, they may end up left in the dust. Photo from FCBarcelona.com
