The number one team almost goes down, a bulldog gets involved in a collision, and more. Who seized the day in week five and who fumbled it away?

It was only three seasons ago that Cubs fans were on cloud nine. They defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games in the World Series to win their first title in 108 years. The Jason Heyward speech, "Try Not to Suck", all the remnants of a memorable Cubs season transpired to euphoria for the north side fans. Now, the Cubs have taken a sky dive from grace, losing nine straight en route to missing the playoffs.
So what happened? Certain additions to the team (Craig Kimbrel) haven't panned out. Certain prospects (Albert Almora, Jr.) haven't lived up to expectations. A certain manager (Joe Maddon) has been heavily questioned for his lineups by fans. It doesn't help that the rotation has shown its age a bit, as made evident by Jon Lester's down year and Cole Hamels and Jose Quintana's deterioration. Nick Castellanos and Nico Hoerner helped for a bit, but couldn't remedy the problems plaguing the Cubs.
Cubs fans should be fortunate that Theo Epstein plans on sticking around, especially with all the Red Sox rumors flying around. However, Epstein and his crew have to contemplate whether to start from scratch again with players like Kris Bryant and Javier Baez looking to get paid. Another question to be asked is, "who will replace Joe Maddon?" Many people point to Joe Girardi as the obvious answer. After all, he's from the area. However, Epstein has a penchant for promoting from within. Therefore, it could be Mark Loretta. Whatever the case is, this summer's going to be an interesting one for Cubs fans.
From hereon out, I'm just going to post the bonus pick on here. I figure it'd be better to do for my website. So we're looking at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers versus the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams survived a tough Sunday night contest against Cleveland, but can they get Jared Goff and crew going this week? The answer is...
Disney has been on a live-action rampage as of late. There will have been four theatrical releases from Disney by year's end (Aladdin, Dumbo, Lion King, and Mulan) and one for Disney+ (Lady and the Tramp). More are on the way, including classics such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, and Lilo and Stitch. I saw Aladdin, Dumbo, and the Lion King this year. I liked Aladdin, but the other two didn't do anything for me.
To me, these live action remakes are devoid of any soul. Animation is meant to be a dream world, an escape from the harsh truths of reality. Putting these films into 'live-action' takes them away from that fantasy element. For example, Lion King just had a bunch of CGI animals running around and talking. I personally found it funny when they just ran around, void of any emotion. It looked dumb. I do like myself some Christopher Walken, though.
All it needed was... more cowbell. You see, that's what Lion King also needed. Christopher Walken giving a speech to Simba, telling him to kick Scar's ass for enacting the terrible wrath of climate change. That would've made things much better. Also, Will Smith was actually pretty good as the Genie. Other than those two things, I don't plan on seeing these live action remakes Disney will continue to churn out. Even people like me not seeing them won't do the end of these productions any justice: my generation (myself included) grew up with these films and we foam at the mouth for any nostalgia (I am guilty of this regarding Nintendo gaming). As long as Disney hits that note of nostalgia with my fellow millennials and our offspring, they will continue to turn more out. You do have to admit that Will Smith as Shrek would be funny (please, no Shrek live action remakes, though!).

October baseball is just around the bend, which means we could have some magical autumn moments in baseball. The field is being established in the final days of the regular season, so we'll have our postseason teams settled soon. Which brings me to my next point: which match-ups do would be the best?
So I decided to simulate the entire 2019 NFL season a couple weeks ago. There were surprises galore in the simulation and I mean SURPRISES. For example, the New York Giants go 8-1 in the first half of the season. WHAT?! Apparently, Saquon Barkley is having an MVP season in Tecmo Super Bowl and Eli Manning is passable. Also, the Jets, Cardinals and Broncos are in the running for a playoff spot, which is surprising if you consider that all three teams are currently winless. Also, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, and even Tom Brady suffer injuries (albeit for a short time) in the season. Here's how the first half of the simulated season panned out.
Now we go back to the end of the regular season and the Eagles get the best record in the NFL thanks to their 9-0 start. Somehow, Jacksonville surges to a playoff spot, going 5-2 in their final seven games to win the AFC South. Denver, the New York Giants, and the New York Jets hold serve to obtain surprising playoff spots while the Cardinals fall out. Yes, Cleveland lived up to expectations this season and made the playoffs, bumping Pittsburgh out on the last week. Here's how the regular season shook out.
Here are the leaders for this Tecmo Super Bowl season. Boy, does this game emphasize rushing A LOT. The sheer fact that there are two running backs with over 2,000 rushing yards says a lot about the game. There also a lot of sacks, as seen by Aaron Donald's 36 sacks this season.
So now the playoffs are set. The New England Patriots do Patriot stuff en route to another Super Bowl appearance. They will taking to a rematch from a couple years ago against the Philadelphia Eagles. Believe it or not, the Eagles have to rely on the magic of Josh McCown after Carson Wentz gets injured (I'm so shocked) to get there. So who wins the rematch between the two teams?
The Patriots win number seven, beating the Eagles, 35-28. McCown's magic wasn't enough to lift America up as Tom Brady just threw it to Julian Edelman all game en route to his seventh ring.
The season had some surprises (hello, New York teams), but it ultimately led to New England hoisting the Lombardi trophy. Also, I need to do these simulations more often. I love the surprises that come with them. Also, the halftime show for the Super Bowl was the Mighty Bomb Jack Show, a character from another Tecmo game, Mighty Bomb Jack for the NES. I bet Roger Goodell would be entertained by this halftime show.
Armed with exciting players in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz have become a legit contender for the NBA title. What can you expect from the Jazz this season?
This off-season, the Oklahoma City Thunder finally decided to blow it all up. Sam Presti gave away Russell Westbrook and Paul George for draft picks, kickstarting the rebuild in Oklahoma City. What should you expect from the Thunder this season?
A titanic clash between two powerhouses, a hyped team gets exposed, some controversy, and Central Florida's 27-game winning streak ended. Who rose to the occasion and who faltered?

College Football Playoff Four:
You would think that a bunch of burly men would have no interest in Dragon Ball Z, let alone anime. But that's not the case! Take for example, Lions defensive tackle Mike Daniels, who had this badass mural of him painted as a Saiyan warrior.

Look, Daniels even does the Kamehameha in a 2017 game against the Seahawks!
Daniels isn't the only DBZ fan in the NFL. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is also a Dragon Ball Z fan, even naming his dog Gohan. Steelers wideout Juju Smith-Schuster is a fan as well as Falcons wideout Mohamed Sanu.

The fandom has even translated into some awesome touchdown celebrations in the NFL. Check them out!
As a fellow Dragon Ball Z fan, this warms my heart to see some of the biggest NFL stars share in the fandom. Like Goku, they push their bodies to the limit in hopes of becoming better and it pays off. It makes you want to go Super Saiyan!
