An Ode to Mr. Irrelevant

The title of "Mr. Irrelevant" is reserved for the last player selected in the NFL Draft. Former NFL receiver and Newport Beach native Paul Salata founded the event, "Irrelevant Week", in 1976 to commemorate the last pick in the NFL Draft. The event includes a roast giving advice to the pick, a golf tournament, and a ceremony awarding him the "Lowsman" trophy. Here are some notable "Mr. Irrelevant's" throughout the NFL's history.
  • Marty Moore: Moore was the first "Mr. Irrelevant" to play in the Super Bowl, when he was with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. It seems like Bill Belichick has a role for every guy on his team.
  • Jim Finn: One of the more well-known "Mr. Irrelevant's", Finn was a fullback on the New York Giants for their Super Bowl XLII victory. Prior to 2007, he had been the Giants fullback for four seasons before being placed on injured reserve.
  • Chad Kelly: The quarterback from Ole Miss once tried to slide into Mia Khalifa's DM's, but was shot down and called out by Khalifa. Kelly's uncle is the legendary Buffalo Bills quarterback, Jim Kelly.
  • Ryan Succop: Perhaps one of the most successful "Mr. Irrelevant's" on the list, the 2009 pick just signed a contract extension with the Tennessee Titans. Succop tied the NFL record for the highest field goal percentage by a rookie with 86.2% and passed Jan Stenerud for most field goals made by a Kansas City Chief in their franchise history. Succop has made 81.5% of his career field goals and all of his extra points.
