49ers' Off-Season Checklist

Much hope and hype about the San Francisco 49ers this season came to a screeching halt when Jimmy Garappolo went down with an ACL injury. The Niners have a high draft pick once again, so what should they do to build upon their future?
  • Get an Edge Rusher (not done): DeForest Bruckner was an awesome surprise for the Niners this year, amassing 67 total tackles, 12 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and three pass deflections. Whether it'd be through the draft or through free agency (Ezekiel Ansah makes sense), the Niners need to find someone to complement Bruckner up front.
  • Get Garappolo a Playmaker (not done): The Niners' best receiver this season was... a tight end. Granted, George Kittle has emerged as a pleasant surprise in what was a group of young or unknown receivers. But the Niners should try and make a play for Antonio Brown if they can. They DO have the draft pick necessary to make the move and Brown has expressed interest in playing in San Francisco.
  • Find Players That Can Create Turnovers (not done): San Francisco created a paltry seven turnovers this year, dead last in the NFL. They had a give/take ratio of -25, which was also worst in the NFL. The Niners do have a young secondary that is still adapting to NFL play. However, finding a veteran cornerback, linebacker, or safety to accompany veteran corner Richard Sherman will help vastly.
  • Get Healthy (wait and see): A big problem with San Francisco this year was injuries. Lots and lots of injuries. It wasn't just Garappolo, either. Jerrick McKinnon went down at the start of the season and Sherman was shelved a bit with injuries of his own. It's imperative for the Niners to remain healthy in order to compete with the Rams and Seahawks next season.
